The journey begins by crossing the Tizi n'Test pass on the way to Taroudant, a high mountain road offering spectacular views and winding through Berber villages. The route then heads south to Foum Zguid via Tata, where desert expanses mingle with oases, revealing a wild and unspoilt Morocco.
The route continues towards Boumalne Dadès, via Agdz and the Tazazert pass, where the rugged terrain and kasbahs of the Drâa valley create a unique atmosphere. After the curves of the Dades gorges, head for the Merzouga dunes for a dip in the golden sands of Erg Chebbi. The return loop leads to Agdz, then on to Marrakech via the villages of Tazzarine and Aït Ben Haddou, with a final stop at Telouet and the crossing of the Tichka Pass. Ait Ben Haddou
After your transfer to the hotel, this first day is devoted to acclimatisation, administrative formalities and a general briefing on the tour. The earlier you arrive in Marrakech, the more time you will have to explore Jemaa El Fena square and its lively streets. Welcome dinner.
After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred to our departure base. Head due south towards the Tiz’nTest pass. We’re plunged straight into the High Atlas. An extraordinary route, but a region that bore the full brunt of the earthquake of 8 September 2023. After lunch with breathtaking views, we reach Taroudant after an epic descent of the pass
Leaving Taroudant, the Anti-Atlas mountains rise to the horizon, and the winding roads gradually reveal small Berber villages. Approaching Ighrem, the landscape becomes more arid and rocky, marked by palm trees and deep valleys. The road to Tata crosses vast stretches of desert, where you sometimes come across herds of camels and ancient kasbahs, relics of local history. At the end of the day, the arrival at Foum Zguid reveals an impressive panorama of the desert, the starting point for the dunes of the Sahara.
Leaving Foum Zguid, the road crosses desert plains to Agdz, where the palm grove of the Drâa Valley stretches like a green oasis between the mountains. Continuing towards Nkob, the landscape changes to hills dotted with kasbahs and Berber villages. The crossing of the Tazazert pass is a highlight: a winding climb revealing breathtaking panoramas of the steep mountains, before dropping down into the Dades gorges. The arrival at Boumalne Dadès, after this intense day, marks the end of a Moroccan crossing that is as varied as it is spectacular.
Leaving Boumalne Dadès, you first drive along arid mountains to Tinghir, where the road leads to the majestic Todra gorges, veritable walls of red rock rising up on either side of the river, ideal for a break in the heart of nature. On the way back to Tinejdad, palm groves line the road and adobe kasbahs dot the horizon. In Rissani, the atmosphere of the gateway to the desert can be felt, with its bustling markets and sandy lanes. Finally, the arrival at Merzouga offers a breathtaking spectacle: the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi stretch as far as the eye can see, ready for a magical evening in the heart of the desert.
A day of rest under the sign of the magic of the desert. 4x4 excursion to meet nomadic families, discovery of green oases, lazing by the pool before a second night to the rhythm of tam tams and desert music. A day to connect with the desert before continuing our Moroccan adventure.
Leaving Merzouga, the golden dunes give way to vast expanses of gravel and small rocky plateaux. The village of Alnif is the first stop, famous for its fossils and mineral landscapes. Further on, Tazzarine offers splendid views of oases dotted with palm trees and adobe kasbahs, contrasting with the surrounding aridity. Arriving at Nkob, you'll discover a landscape of 45 kasbahs, surrounded by warm-coloured mountains. The road to Agdz gradually descends into the Drâa valley, offering a verdant panorama after a day rich in discoveries.
From Agdz, it's on up the Drâa Valley with its lush green palm groves to Ouarzazate, nicknamed the gateway to the desert, where the Taourirt kasbah stands proud. A few kilometres further on, Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO-listed site, reveals its fortified village that seems frozen in time. Continuing towards Telouet, the road winds through the Atlas Mountains, leading to the kasbah of Telouet, former home of the Lords of Glaoui. The crossing of the Tichka Pass, the high point of the journey, offers spectacular panoramic views over the valleys and mountains before the descent to Marrakech, marking the end of an exhilarating day between deserts, kasbahs and alpine peaks.
